EKUKE
the village dog of Nigeria.
Every compound has one. He sits by the gate with ears like satellite dishes and knows who is coming before the knock.
Nobody bought him. Nobody named him properly. Everybody just calls out Ekuke and he turns his head.
Nobody fed him on purpose. Everybody fed him a little.
That is how a street raises a legend: a bone from one house, rice from the next, a pat on the head from a stranger who was in a hurry.
So we cut him a coin. Round, orange, ears up.
It costs nothing to love a dog like this. It is a meme, and it is meant to be fun.
He does not chase anything. Everything eventually walks past his gate.
Bring a friend, bring the whole street. The more people who say his name, the louder the bark.
